Data and tips for 5-letter words

Termo's 5-letter list has 15,940 words accepted as guesses and 3,066 that can be the answer of the day. The letters that show up most in the answers are E (47%), S (45%), A (38%), R (33%), O (29%), I (27%), with the percentage of answers containing each one in parentheses. About 33% of the answers repeat at least one letter. The most common first letters are S, C, B and the most common last letters are S, E, Y. Words that test many frequent letters at once make good openers, such as AROSE, ARISE, RAISE.

This is the classic size. Open with a vowel-rich word, use the second guess for the most common consonants and avoid repeating letters until you are sure they appear twice.
