7 strategies to solve Termo in three guesses

Solving in three guesses is not luck, it is method. These are the seven habits that help the most, in the order they tend to be useful during a game.
- Have a fixed opener. Memorizing a good starting word for each length takes one decision off your mind and makes sure your first guess always brings information. See our ranking of openers.
- Use the second guess to explore. If your opener hit nothing, do not repeat letters: test a new group of frequent letters. You trade a small chance of an early hit for far more clues.
- Read the three colors together. Green pins a position, yellow rules out one position and gray eliminates the letter (or the extra copies). Keep a mental note of where each yellow letter cannot go.
- Think slot by slot. Instead of hunting for random words, ask which letters fit in each slot. The first and last slots usually have few common options.
- Beware of rhyme traps. When the ending is almost certain, such as -IGHT or -OUND, many words can fit. Use a guess that tests several different starting letters at once instead of trying them one by one.
- Consider repeated letters. If the clues do not add up, try imagining a word with a repeated letter. It is one of the most common reasons for getting stuck.
- Practice without pressure. Endless mode lets you play many words in a row. The more patterns you see, the faster you recognize endings and consonant clusters.
To wrap up
No strategy solves in three every time, but these habits cut your average a lot. Try one at a time and see what changes.
