How Termo words end: the most common endings
Termo team · Roghan Games · October 20, 2026
Once you have found a few letters, the last slot is often the easiest one to guess. English is full of recognizable endings: plurals, verb forms and common suffixes leave clear marks on the end of a word. To measure it, we looked at every possible Termo answer, without repeating words, and counted how each one ends.
Most common endings by length
| Length | Most common final letters | Most common two-letter endings |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | E (17%), S (15%), T (10%) | LL (2%), TS (2%), CK (2%) |
| 5 | S (27%), E (13%), Y (11%) | ES (6%), ER (4%), ED (4%) |
| 6 | S (23%), E (13%), D (13%) | ED (11%), ER (9%), ES (6%) |
| 7 | S (25%), D (12%), E (12%) | NG (11%), ED (11%), ES (8%) |
What the numbers show
- S leads in longer words. In 5, 6 and 7-letter words, the S is the most common final letter by a wide margin. It marks plurals (WORDS, GAMES) and third-person verbs.
- E and Y matter in short words. In 4 and 5-letter words, a final E (silent or not) is common, and a final Y shows up often in 5-letter words (HAPPY, FUNNY).
- ED and ER take over in longer words. The endings ED, ER and ES are among the most frequent two-letter endings from 5 letters up, and ING (the NG ending) is very common at 7 letters.
- Double letters at the end are rare but real. Endings like LL and CK appear in 4-letter words more than you might expect (BALL, DUCK).
How to use this in your guesses
- If the word looks like a plural, try an S in the last slot before spending a guess on something exotic.
- In 6 and 7-letter words, test ED or ING early when the letters fit: they confirm several letters in one guess.
- If you are stuck in the last slot, a Y or an E is a good probe in 5-letter words, because both are among the most frequent final letters.
- Beware of rhyme traps: after you find an ending like ATCH or IGHT, many words fit. Use the next guess to test several different starting letters at once.
